ACERWC Following up Ethiopia’s compliance with its recommendations

The ACERWC has started a two day mission in the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia to follow up on the country compliance to its concluding observations on the initial report on the implementation of the African Children’s Charter. 

The Committee delegation led by Honorable Aver Gavar, held this morning a constructive dialogue with the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs, in the presence of representatives of other departments such as Education and Justice. Honorable Gavar briefed the Minister on the objective of the mission which is to assess the level of implementation of its recommendations, and to look for opportunities to create a stronger parternship with other stakeholders. The visit at the Ministry was ended with a Press Conference during which the media had the opportunity to seek more clarifications on the purpose of ACERWC’s visit.

The delegation later paid a courtesy visit to UNICEF Ethiopia, Plan International and Save the Children International country offices, to discuss on the potential areas of intervention the government should reinforce its effort for a better protection of children rights.

The mission will continue tomorrow with a  one day workshop that will bring together various ministries, government agencies, CSOs, UN agencies and other stakeholders together to discuss about the progress and challenges in the implementation of the recommendations of the Charter.
