Opening of the 30th ACERWC SessionJuly 26th, 2018
The opening Ceremony was attended by Representatives from the Governments of Angola, Cameroon and Sierra Leone, Members of the Diplomatic Corps, Representatives from the United Nation Offices; National and International Organisations CSOs; and the Media. The Session was officially opened by H.E. Bakri Hassan Saleh, First Vice-President and Prime Minister of the Republic of Sudan. In his opening remarks, H.E. Bakri Hassan Saleh stated the commitment of his country to promote child rights as a national duty, expressed in the ratification of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child and the African Charter on the Rights and Welfare of the Child. He expressed Sudan’s availability to support the mandate of the Committee as the country desires to host the Committee’s secretariat.
At the core of this 30th Ordinary Session is a Day of General Discussion dedicated to the issues of child labour and exploitation. The objective of this day is to identify strategic interventions for the full implementation of Article 15 of the African Children’s Charter. The Session will also consider State Party reports from Angola and Sierra Leone, as well as Civil Society Organizations reports from Benin, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Malawi, Niger, and South Africa. The Committee will also examine two communications/complaints on alleged child rights violations against State parties to the Charter.
